The Museum Van Abbe collects and shows modern and contemporary art. Building and collection is founded by entrepeneur Henri van Abbe. He made his fortune by production of cigars. In the years just before World War II, Van Abbe was, after numer one Philips, the most succesfull employer in the region. The Museum opened in 1936. Nowadays the museum is owned by the City of Eindhoven.
